Every one of us wants to make our screen look stylish, jazzy and something that reflects our own style. This is how the concept of theme comes in to picture. Find out all about Windows 7 themes and get one for yourself.

There are millions of Windows 7 themes floating on the internet and most of us double click them without prior thinking but wait, you might run into some risks. If you do not carefully understand which themes and what you are downloading, it would create trouble in your work.

The two types of themes in broad terms :

1. There are the ones that are created by Microsoft itself especially as Windows 7 themes. They are trademark of Microsoft and would not be available anywhere and everywhere but selected websites directed by the company itself. They primarily would be 'themepacks' available for installation. They are very safe in module and in terms of security also. There are no threats of viruses being attracted and you can enjoy the Windows 7 themes in your system. You might have to register to get the themes on your desktop.

2. The next line of Windows 7 themes comes from the unknown sources and floating in thousands of number over the internet. These Windows 7 themes are third party themes that you should take care of before downloading. You will have to patch your uxtheme.dll and some other dll files first in order to get the themes in place. These are non-reliable sources therefore you should be aware of the risks before downloading them.

Make sure the you create a back-up before installing 3rd-party Windows 7 themes

It is a fact that Microsoft will not allow you to use themes that modify the shell of Windows 7 or other parts. For example- the Start orb or the taskbar. If you still wish to install those themes, then you will have to patch your uxtheme.dll, themeui.dll and themeservice.dll, which you can locate in "C:\Windows\system32\".

Consider Universal Theme Patcher

Another way to go about downloading themes would be to download the Universal Theme Patcher. The one that works with Windows XP SP2 SP3/2003/2008/Vista SP1 SP2/Windows 7, 32bit(x86)/64bit(x64). With help of this, you will not be creating any other background process but this will patch your files making it compatible for downloading Windows7 Themes.
